About the Department

The Government of Meghalaya (GoM) created the Department of Information Technology (DIT) in May, 2001 with a view of making available the benefits of Information & Communication Technology to all citizens, especially the poor and disadvantaged section of the population, businesses and Government employees and all other stakeholders.

GoM through IT Department plans to realise its vision of transforming the state of Meghalaya into one of the most preferred and leading destinations for investments in IT/ITES, high-end technology & electronics industry in East India or NE Region.

Mission /Major Objectives & Goals

  1. Leverage ICT to make G2C (Govt. to Citizens) ,G2B (Govt. to Business), G2E (Govt. to Employee), G2G (Govt. to Govt.) services easily accessible to the common man and to ensure efficiency, transparency & reliability of such services at affordable costs.

  2. Stimulate investment and growth in the IT/ITES and high-end technology  Sector through suitable policy initiatives

  3. Bridging the digital divide by ICT dissemination among the state citizenry.

  4. Developing Human Resources for IT & ITES.

To effectively leverage ICT (Information and Communication Technology) for the State’s overall development and focus on IT dissemination and usage as a crucial engine of economic growth and as a tool for increasing productivity, effectiveness, speed & transparency in governance leading to improved quality of life for the common man, businesses and internal Governmental agencies.
