Press Release Number:
19/10/2026
Description:
The exposure visit aimed to familiarise students with the process of supplying safe drinking water, from its source to household tap connections, while promoting awareness of water conservation, sustainability and the importance of protecting water sources and catchment areas. During the programme, students were sensitised to the effects of source contamination and the need to safeguard catchment areas through tree plantation, community participation and regular vigilance.

From Source to Functional Household Tap Connection: Shri. K. Nongbsaw, Executive Engineer, PHED, Mawkyrwat Division, explained the functioning of the pumping station and Water Treatment Plant (WTP), along with the entire process of water distribution under the Greater Mawkyrwat Combined Water Supply Scheme. The flow of water from the Main Collection-cum-Withdrawal Reservoir (MCWR) to the Zonal Clear Water Reservoirs (ZCWRs) and subsequently to households, schools and health centres was explained in detail and demonstrated on-site. The practical demonstration helped students understand the gravity-flow and pumping systems involved in supplying water to different areas.

Detailed technical and community-oriented sessions were conducted by Shri. K. Nongbsaw, Executive Engineer, Shri. I. Kharbudon, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Shri. T. Lyngkhoi, Junior Engineer (JE) and Shri. Steven Wahlang, District Programme Management Unit (DPMU), Jal Jeevan Mission.
