Addressing the gathering, Shri. Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, appreciated the rich legacy and contribution of Kiang Nangbah Government College to the people of Jaintia hills and the commitment of the principal, faculty, staff and students and noted that despite the emergence of several new institutions, the college continues to attract students because of its history, prestige and longstanding reputation. He also appreciated the discipline and sense of ownership demonstrated by the students towards their institution.

Highlighting the way forward, the Chief Guest said that the college should aspire for greater academic freedom and encouraged it to work towards achieving autonomous status. He stated that autonomy would provide the institution with greater flexibility in curriculum development, examination and academic planning, enabling it to respond more effectively to the changing needs of students and the world of work
