It is to inform that on 05/07/2026 at about 6:20 PM, information was received from a Good Samaritan to the effect that an unknown male dead body was lying inside the old Sales Tax Building at Byrnihat Proper, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. During enquiry, upon arrival at the place of occurrence, which is located at Byrnihat Proper in the old Sales Tax Building, one unknown male dead body was found lying inside a room.

Further enquiry revealed that the deceased was a homeless person who was mentally unstable and was often seen loitering in the Byrnihat area. Thereafter, the dead body was shifted to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. On 06/07/2026, an inquest over the dead body of the deceased was conducted in the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, under sufficient light. After completion of the inquest, a post-mortem examination was conducted to ascertain the actual cause of death. The dead body has been preserved in the mortuary of Civil Hospital, Nongpoh. In this regard, a WT message was sent to all OCs/ICs of Police Stations, Outposts, AD Camps, and PICs across India for identification of the deceased
