In his address, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew emphasised the vital role of girls in shaping the future of society, calling them the "backbone of society and the future of the nation." He stated, “When we empower and protect our girls, we not only improve their lives but also build a healthier and stronger society.” Highlighting Meghalaya’s matrilineal structure, he noted that while cultural traditions regard women as custodians of lineage and property, gender-based discrimination still prevails across multiple aspects of society. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew also drew attention to the challenges faced by girls in the areas of health, education, and economic opportunity. He stressed the need for collective societal efforts, saying, “Safeguarding the girl child is not solely the responsibility of the government. Communities must come forward and ensure that girls have access to better healthcare and opportunities”
