A meeting was chaired by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (R), Smt. R. M. Kurbah, IAS on the 15th of May, 2026 to discuss the encroachment made within the Right of Way (RoW) along the newly constructed Shillong to Dawki road, in which the Manager (P), NHIDCL, PMU-Mylliem has raised concerns about the hawkers encroaching into the RoW at multiple locations along the stretch of Rilbong Point, 3 ½ Mile Upper Shillong and 7th Mile Upper Shillong, and also about the setting up of a parking lot at Rilbong Point. As this encroachment may pose high risk to the general public, the hawkers, as well as for vehicular movement, the meeting decided that officials from the Police department (Shillong Traffic Police); PWD (Roads), NH Division Shillong and NHIDCL should collaborate to evict the hawkers
