Title: Chief Minister attends 65th Teachers’ Day State-Level Celebration in Tura

Congratulating all awardees, the Chief Minister said recognition does not belong only to those who receive an award today, but equally to the teacher in a single-teacher school in a border village, doing this work without an audience, without applause, simply because a child is depending on them.
Reiterating his core belief, the Chief Minister said, "No education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, however much money we spend on buildings, however many schemes we launch."
Recalling 2018, the Chief Minister said when he asked for a plan to transform school infrastructure, the presentation said it needed ₹ 3,000 crore. "I stared at the screen and said I don't have ₹ 3,000 crore. But I said let us start, even if with 10 schools. Every long journey starts with the first step."
Seven years later, through Mission Education, Government has upgraded infrastructure in more than 2,000 elementary Government schools and expanded Higher Secondary Schools from 427 to 545, bringing quality education closer to every child's home.
From his Chief Minister's Special Development Fund (CMSDF), maximum has gone to education, about ₹ 150-180 crore out of ₹ 300-400 crore spent in last 8 financial years.
Through the Education Department, ₹ 600-700 crore has been spent, apart from CSR funds channeled entirely to education.
The Chief Minister shared that for the first time since Performance Grading Index was introduced, Meghalaya has moved out of the lowest grade category, rising from Akanshi-3 to Akanshi-1 in a single year, with score climbing from 448 points to 525.7 points out of 1000. This 77.7-point jump is the largest single-year improvement recorded by any State in the country, with a cumulative gain of 124 points (31%) over four years.
This is reflected in results that touch every household: 97.2% pass percentage at SSLC and 86.6% at HSSLC this year, transition from Class X to XI risen to 82.1%, now ahead of national average, and significant decline in secondary dropout rate
