Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister, congratulated the 76 newly appointed Sub-Inspectors and described the occasion as a significant milestone in their lives and careers. He noted that more than 21,000 candidates had applied for the posts, highlighting the highly competitive nature of the recruitment process. Emphasising the trust reposed in the police by the public, the Chief Minister urged the recruits to live up to the expectations of the government, their families, and the people of the State. “Out of more than 21,000 applicants, God has chosen 76 of you to serve Meghalaya,” he said.

Highlighting the role of Sub-Inspectors, he described them as the eyes and ears of the police and the government, serving as a vital link between the public and decision-makers. Urging them not to underestimate their role, he stressed their responsibility in ensuring efficient, effective, and people-centric policing. He reminded the recruits to remain humane in the exercise of authority and cautioned against allowing power or position to influence their conduct. He also urged them to take their forthcoming training seriously, describing it as the foundation of their professional journey.

The Chief Minister commended the Director General of Police and the Recruitment Board for conducting the recruitment process in a fair, transparent, and efficient manner despite several challenges. “This is not just about a job; it is about serving the people of Meghalaya and the nation,” he said
