The Brown Awl - Badamia exclamationis (Fabricius)

Colour : Dark brown
A somewhat common butterfly of 50-55 mm. Upper surface of wings dark brown with the basal area paler. Fore wing very long and narrow with slender whitish, elongated, semi-transparent spots in the middle area. Generally found in all sorts of places especially in jungles. Recorded from Shillong during July.

The Common Spotted Flat - Celaenorrhinus leucocera (Kollar)

Colour : Deep brown
A common butterfly of 45-55 mm. The upper surface of wings dark brown. Fore wing with a band of more or less connected, semi-transparent white spots on the middle area and small white spots towards the tip. Hind wing with a few obscure yellow spots. Generally found in wet forested hills. Recorded from Shillong during October.

The Restricted Demons - Notocrypta curoifacia (Felder)

Colour : Deep brown
A common butterfly of 38-50 mm. Upper surface of the fore wing. tip with white dots and with a white band in the middle area not continuing with the upper margin. Commonly found in wet forest regions. Recorded from Lawsohtun and Shillong during September and October.

The Small Banded Swift - Pelopidas mathias (Fabricius)

Colour : Rusty brown
A common butterfly of 32-38 mm. Upper surface of the wings - dark brown. Spots on the upper surface of the fore wing often small. Under surface of the hind wing with very small spots. Upper surface of the hind wing usually plain and at times spotted. Recorded from Shillong during June.

The Grass Demons - Udaspes tolus (Cramer)

Colour : Brown
A common butterfly of 40-48 mm. Upper surface of wings black with large semi-transparent white spots. Fore wing with a white spot in the middle area and with many irregular spots towards the outer margin. Hind wing with a large semi-transparent white mark in the centre. Generally found in open regions of hilly jungles. Recorded from Umran during September.
